Our journey begins in the vineyards. We transform grape residue, a natural by-product of winemaking, into something of value. Through careful separation, cleaning, and drying, we recover the seeds and use them — alongside pumpkin, hemp, milk thistle, and walnuts — to press premium oils. This process reduces waste and brings new life to resources that might otherwise be discarded.
When pressing oils, we obtain a nutrient-dense by-product known as oil cake. Instead of overlooking its potential, we invested in advanced technologies to transform it into gluten-free flours, naturally rich in vegan proteins and fibres.
These flours have become a valuable ingredient for bakeries and confectionery, pasta production, and innovative plant-based meat substitutes. With their natural flavour and nutritional benefits, they support the rising demand for clean-label, functional, and sustainable food solutions.
We believe in a closed-loop production model. By producing both flour and oil in-house, we minimize waste, ensure full traceability, and reduce reliance on external suppliers. This integration makes our supply chain more resilient while aligning every stage with our eco-conscious philosophy.
Sustainability at Biateca goes beyond products. We proudly use organic heat energy generated from oil production waste, which has allowed us to eliminate natural gas usage entirely in our company's household needs. With ongoing investments in renewable energy, we are on track to reduce electricity consumption for both household and production by up to 60% — further cutting greenhouse gas emissions and reducing our footprint.
